I’m amazed at how calm I’ve become this Holiday Season. One reason is because I’ve gone from Doll-maker to Card-maker. In the years where I either joined and/or coordinated craft shows I would start in September to create inventory, prepare invites to artists and later the guests for the shows I was in. In the way back time we used to call this time period Doll Wars. This year I’ve been creating cards leisurely since May.

Most people would work calmly throughout the year but As a doll maker I was of the “deadline pressure” crowd. It may have beEn an adrenaline addiction, I’m not sure. I do enjoy the rush up to actual show time even if I feel completely stressed out during the last few days of production. The crazy thing is that I did get everything done exactly on time. However, since there were no shows this season that I have been involved with I have the time to simply enjoy calmness. Wow, it is so refreshing. This is also due to working with card design on paper and in computer. This mode of art making is so much less cumbersome that doll making days. Ideas flow out of the pen to the pad or screen. I love it!

I will say one important thing. I promised a girl named Layla that I would make her a kitty doll this year. One of her grandmothers had two kitties she wanted to re-home. This girl’s other grandma knew I was looking for two kitties. We got connected. The kitties that were being re-homed were two cats that were extremely attached to each other (see image below).
Layla was really attached to kitty, Gemma but she knew their hearts would be broken if separated. Layla made the generous decision to let Gemma come home with Leo kitty and me.

So, today I gave her grandma the doll I made for her for her 12th year old birthday. I have enjoyed making this kitty doll so much for Miss Layla.
